First Time we Met:
Tara and I first met up at Many Point Scout Camp during the summer of 2011. She had been recruited by a friend of mine to be on staff that year, and for months before we met I was told she was perfect for me. We finally met during the beginning of the summer at Ice Cracking Lodge during the first night the staff could go out. I had spent the first part of the night chatting and catching up with old friends before settling down at a table with my close friends and Tara. Over the course of the night, the table slowly emptied until it was just Tara and me. We spent the rest of the night talking and before I knew it, it was time to head back to camp to beat curfew. We hung out a few times during the summer on weekends in groups, but nothing happened until after the end of the summer.
Our first date came the weekend after the summer ended. I had planned to visit the Twin Cities to see some of my college friends, but those plans fell through and I was without a place to stay. Luckily, a friend of mine from Many Point was having a party so I attended to kill time and have a place to stay. During that party, I ran into one of Tara’s friends who, after talking for a bit, gave me Tara’s number and we started texting that night. I invited her to hang out with a few camp people and me at the Minnesota State Fair the next day. As fate would have it, everyone decided not to go and Tara and I were left alone. We talked about how going to the State Fair wasn’t a date and we walked around the fair for a few hours. Tara was “sick” from the night before, so we ended up not doing anything other than walking around and sitting on benches. After the State Fair we went out to a Mexican restaurant down the street and I paid, after some fighting on who would pay. We both said that it wasn’t a date, but it was. |
